Deconstruction has started!

Following a karakia on 19 November, contractors moved into the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre to start the deconstruction process.

Good news – some equipment and fittings are being stored for re-use when the centre opens in 2021 and a huge amount of furniture and equipment has been donated to local schools, marae and community groups.

As well as furniture and fittings being re-homed, deconstruction at the arts centre involves removing some internal walls and ceilings, and lifting floors in preparation for the main construction phase to start early next year
